Never before has Kevin Smith's View been so Askew. Jersey Girl centres on Ollie (Ben Affleck), a young father forced to downsize in the aftermath of his wife's death. The problem is that it's both underwritten and overplayed: Ollie is too hateable, while the relationship on which the movie hangs - - Ollie's romance with Maya (Liv Tyler) - - feels ludicrously lightweight. A move away from the bustle of the mainstream beckons.

In addition to a spirited interview with his male lead, Smith takes the unnecessary step of providing two commentaries: one with Affleck and another with Jason Mewes. A series of travelogues, text interviews and a Making Of add plenty of content but little value.
