It's 1961 and the Commies are so terrified of the US deterrent they dispatch nuclear sub K-19. There's only one problem: it's not yet fully functional, the faulty equipment and leaky hull threatening disaster from within. Naturally this leads to thunderous barneys between Harrison Ford's captain and Liam Neeson's stubborn officer (both with rudderless Soviet accents). Events turn white-hot when the reactor starts to melt down...
DVD Extras:
Considering how much stock Bigelow and exec producer Ford put in this film being authentic, the absence of a documentary is bizarre. But there is an insightful commentary from Bigelow and DP Jeff Cronenweth, plus a worthwhile feature on the impressive sets.
