Two football-obsessed teens turn stalkers in this compelling drama

Kicks review

Liverpool Football Club have had so many problems on and off the pitch lately that the two player-obsessed teens around which this low-budget Brit-pic revolves would scarcely constitute a minor inconvenience.

But as ingénue Kerrie Hayes and Street Dance’s Nichola Burley set their sights on midfielder Jamie Doyle, Lindy Heymann’s film mines a compelling hinterland between adoration and fixation.

The need for shallow thrills eventually takes over, but there’s always the style and fresh performances to keep things afloat.
