Kiki's Delivery Service

4

Kiki's a funny name for a witch, but then the little star of Kiki's Delivery Service is no ordinary hubble-and-bubble cauldron stirrer. Sent off by her parents to begin her magic training, Kiki (voiced by Kirsten Dunst in the dubbed version) winds up living in a bakery and using her broomstick to run her own version of Parcelforce. Flying high above the world, Kiki learns a series of lessons about life, growing up and responsibility.

With some memorable characters - - including Kiki's talking pet cat who's small in size, but rather wise - - this gorgeous animated adventure is among Japanese helmer Hayao Miyazaki's very best work. Hermione Granger had better watch out - there's a new witch on the block and she really does deliver the goods.

One of Miyazaki's smaller, more personal films, this is utterly charming throughout.
