Killing Me Softly

1

Web designer Heather Graham falls for mountain climber Joseph Fiennes while working in London. They shag. He has a dark secret lurking in his swanky pad. They shag some more. That's about it for the plot, so what about the interplay between the leads?

Well, it's strictly the bland leading the bland, Bunsen and Beaker from The Muppets having a better grasp of chemistry (Chinese director Chen Kaige, making his English-language debut, clearly didn't realise that his stars are talking utter bunkum). Killing Me Softly doesn't work as an erotic thriller either, the much-vaunted sex scenes providing more giggle than sizzle. The pause-button brigade would be better off elsewhere.
