The grand-daddy of all monster movies updates the Beauty And The Beast fairytale as giant ape Kong is lured from his `lost world' island lair to New York by his fatal attraction for scream-queen Fay Wray.
DVD Extras:
It Was Beauty Who Killed The Beast: - The Making Of King Kong, The Films Of King Kong (a text-only sequels synopsis), restored footage. Although Universal has used the best print available, the film still shows its age in the lack of contrast and definition, while the 25-minute documentary turns out to be another talking heads tribute made for US cable, more concerned with preserving the myth of `movie magic', than giving us a peek behind the scenes. And, frankly, it's a Kong-size cheek to call this version "The Director's Cut", as it does little more than than restore a few shots of the King chowing down on innocent bystanders. Buy this only if you don't already own the video.
