King's Game

4

'A Danish All The President's Men' is the easy tag for Nikolaj Arcel's propulsive political thriller. Lazy, sure, but it'll do - anything to get people sitting down to this assured, intelligent entertainment.

A host of extras sort through the movie's real-life influences, while the detailed audio commentary also cracks its knuckles. The real sell, though, is the movie itself: the shadow-wreathed corridors of power painted steely blue as a journalist (Anders W Berthelsen) uncovers a fiendish plot involving the incumbent Prime Minister (Soren Pilmark).

Based on a book by a former spin doctor of the Danish Tory party, King's Game's wide-eyed revelations - politicians are corrupt, power-hungry schemers; a Faustian pact exists between government and press - will come as no surprise to Blair's children. No matter: crisply shot, acted and paced, this crackles with an energy most Hollywood films can only dream about.

DVD Extras:

Audio commentary from the writers and director, Deleted scene, Bloopers, Truths about the movie, Production design, Alternative scene, The real King's Game, Niels Krause-Kjaer: the author of the novel, The Conservative Party's spin on the movie!, Teaser trailer.
