Charles Dance makes a stuffy directorial debut with this creaky vehicle for Dames Maggie Smith and Judi Dench, cast utterly to type as a pair of ageing sisters whose dull lives in '30s Cornwall are briefly enlivened by Daniel Brühl's dashing Polish violinist. It's the type of movie they don't make any more, and for good reason.
