Halloween H20 helmer Steve Miner turned out a happy, snappy comic-thriller with this light-hearted tale of a monster croc terrorising a sleepy town. Its biggest success lies not in its convincing FX or clever suspense-building, but in the hilarious, insult- hurling double act of Brendan Gleeson's insecure sheriff and Oliver Platt's flamboyant crocodile expert.
