Released shortly after Dead Man Walking, this Death Row drama was justly overshadowed by Tim Robbins' Oscar winner. Braving the camera without her face on, Sharon Stone plays a redneck double murderer who's been awaiting execution for over a decade. Rob Morrow is the lawyer who discovers the woman inside the killer and fights to save Shazza from her date with the lethal syringes.
Verdict:
Alongside Casino, Last Dance ranks as Stone's finest performance - - but her tough, complex turn doesn't stop it from being a turgid melodrama with a daft script. The decision to put most of the focus on Morrow's thinly sketched lawyer is perplexing - ludicrous even - and the overblown finale will elicit titters rather than tears.
