Leaves Of Grass

A double helping of the brilliant Ed Norton is this wacky comedy

Leaves of Grass review

Can’t get enough of Ed Norton?

You’re in luck: the former hulk here plays twins Bill and Brady Kincaid, the former an erudite classics professor, the latter the scruffy king of a-grade marijuana who lures his estranged brother back to Oklahoma with ill intentions.

Stunt casting aside (and Norton’s great value as both stuffy intellectual and good ol’ boy), Tim Blake Nelson’s film mainlines the Coen brothers with its refined eccentricity, wacky characters and abrupt, farcical violence.

But the writer/director/actor is undone by his own genre-mashing ambition, which leaves Leaves more gnarly shrub than glorious bloom.
