Ted Demme's decades-spanning comedy unites Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence as strangers wrongly convicted of murdering a card shark and sentenced to - - you've guessed it - - life in a Mississippi prison. Sixty-plus years of bickering follow, interspersed with the odd bare-knuckle fight, escape bid, conjugal visit and baseball game.
DVD Extras:
Featurette, outtakes, deleted scenes, director's commentary, director's edits and music highlights.Life means life in America, and that's what watching this chuckle-free flop feels like. Apparently the jokes got parole, leaving us to do the hard labour. Sure the DVD itself looks great and features a bunch of so-so goodies, including a bevy of outtakes and alternative director's edits. But not even Demme's enthusiastic feature commentary can convince you that the film either does his directorial skills credit or represents a vintage Murphy performance.
