Despite the tumultuous ’60s backdrop – uprisings, moon landings, war – this period romance lives up to its director’s name, Danny Mooney.
Mickey Wright (Liam Hemsworth) and Dalton Joiner (Austin Stowell) are ’Nam buddies on leave in Michigan who pretend they’re deserters in order to impress the local longhairs.
Hemsworth and love interest Teresa Palmer (as a war protester/idealistic journo) make a pretty pair – though they, like everyone else, look like they’ve just stepped out of a Gap ad.
Complete with obligatory PG-13 skinny dip, it plays like first-draft Nicholas Sparks.
