Another SNL skit makes a stumbling leap to the big screen in this leaden spoof on MacGyver, the ’80s TV hero capable of resolving any problem with everyday objects.
Will Forte plays the title character, a mullet-sporting agent brought out of retirement to foil a missile-stealing supervillain (Val Kilmer) whose moniker – Dieter Von Cunth – is sadly one of the better gags on display.
Going for the gross-out and gratuitous at every opportunity, Jorma Taccone’s puerile comedy winds up being as obsolete as MacGruber’s beloved Blaupunkt stereo.
