Made In America

99 problems, but a festival ain't one

Ron Howard joins the ranks of Hollywood A-list directors turning their hands to concert movie-making with this fly-on-the-wall look at Jay-Z’s inaugural Made In America Festival.

Held in Philadelphia, it feels fitting that the film is as nostalgic as it is forward-thinking – splicing reminiscences of surviving Run-DMC members with a crash course in mixing from Skrillex.

There’s the occasional sense that Howard is acting as mouthpiece for Jay-Z’s almost messianic self-styling, but with tunes this good, you can’t help but hum along.
