Margot At The Wedding

3

The unexpected arrival of one sister at another’s wedding stirs up old issues in a waspish comedy from Noah Baumbach (The Squid And The Whale). The focus is on imploding family dynamics, Jennifer Jason Leigh’s hasty marriage to Jack Black’s oafish artist bringing out the worst in Nicole Kidman’s bitchy authoress. But Baumbach fails to make his narcissistic and selfish antagonists credible or likeable. And for all its memorable performances, this sour depiction of dysfunction feels much longer than its 93 minutes. Scanty extras.
