Peter Kay goes a gag-bang too far with his spin-off from the ribald, raw Phoenix Nights. If giving low-watt bouncers Max (Kay) and Paddy (Patrick McGuinness) their own six-episode show seems a stretch, the DVD extras are even more elasticated.
The dim doormen are obviously having fun throughout, while homages to Midnight Cowboy and Dirty Dancing set off the odd snigger. But the rest is slack, with none of Phoenix’s sharp wit. Bring back Potter, we say. No, not Harry.
BEST BIT: “Paddy has needs!” cries the horny one as he bashes the bishop over Max’s sleeping face. Imagine waking up to that.
