Everybody knows a ‘Dave’. Bet yours isn’t an Eddie Murphy-shaped spaceship unleashed on Manhattan by a diminutive alien captain (Murphy again) and his Lilliputian crew. That’s the premise for Brian Robbins’ (Norbit) tired familyfriendly retread of Coming To America.
Murphy’s deft deadpan as a not-quiteempty vessel occasionally compensates for the Razzie-bait assembly of lav gags, schmaltz and crap FX. Extras-wise, a career-spanning interview with director Robbins is a disturbing masterclass in mediocrity.
