Face it, the ferocious embarrassment-factor of Meet The Parents - - the skewer-sharp familiarity of meeting the in-laws that had audiences wincing - - is almost completely missing here. But it's a much cosier comedy to snuggle up with, as Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) takes his fiancé's family off to meet his folks.
De Niro's coasting, but any comedy slack is snapped up by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand as Greg's parents. Even this chunk of perfection casting can't elevate the film to the heights of the original, but it still keeps it a rung above the average Holly-com.
DVD Extras:
There's a lot here extra-wise, but the quality doesn't match the quantity. The deleted scenes are chuckle-free, the blooper reel is indulgently dull and the rest of the telly-friendly featurettes are instantly forgettable. As for the commentary... well, director Jay Roach makes for an entertaining companion, but you can't help wishing that the stars had been dragged in for a chat, too.
