Midnight Movies: Deluxe Edition

3

A fun run (complete with costume) doc taking you from the discovery of the cult midnight audience with 1970’s El Topo, through the following movies – horror classic Night Of The Living Dead, Pink Flamingos, The Harder They Come, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Eraserhead – that would rule the scene over the next decade. Each movie gets time devoted to it, with John Waters, David Lynch and George Romero puzzling over how their films picked up such massive followings (usually it’s the drugs). It never really explains just why so many kids seized upon them, but it’s a genuinely joyful celebration of some great cult movies and the moment they entered the bloodstream.

DVD Extras:

The nifty two-disc DVD package crams in the extras, with the cult directors getting extra face time but, best of all, also includes Living Dead and hysterical anti-dope flick Reefer Madness for a taste of the genuine articles. Tune in, don’t drop out.
