A TV-show-echoing collection of sketches rather than a run-on story, the runt of the Python litter never scrapes together the barmy coherence of Holy Grail or - - God bless - - Life Of Brian. But when it's good, it's very good indeed. From The Crimson Permanent Assurance short to Mr Creosote, there are some moments of bowel-clenching comic genius here to equal anything the Pythons ever achieved.
DVD Extras:
Bloody hell, there's some good stuff here. The half-dozen deleted scenes (including The Adventures Of Martin Luther) are complete sketches in themselves, and the menus and throwaway extras are crammed with Python whimsy. Better still, the Making Of doc and the Terry Gilliam/ Terry Jones commentary make it abundantly clear that the shooting was, shall we say, "troubled".
