Nathalie

3

Shocked to discover that her husband (Gerard Depardieu) has been sleeping with other women, Parisian Catherine (Fanny Ardant) hires a prostitute (Emmanuelle Beart) - - whom she names Nathalie - to seduce him and report back on their sexual encounters. However, can the increasingly vivid stories of the call-girl be trusted?

Director Anne Fontaine concentrates on the alliance between the two females, unfolding in a cocoon-like atmosphere of warm colours and dreamy editing. Ardant subtly suggests her character's emotional revival, whilst Beart skilfully conveys Nathalie's childlike fragility and her sense of burnt-out despair.
