Never Say Never Again

2

An underwhelming remake of Thunderball, which, thanks to a legal loophole, returned Sean Connery - - unofficially - - to the role of 007. The slick production values impress and Barbara Carrera and Klaus Maria Brandauer are good value villains, but Irvin Kershner appears to have nodded off in the director's chair. Maybe he was just trying to avoid the sight of Connery tonguing a young Kim Basinger. Yeuch!

DVD Extras:

Trailer. Technically, this is a top-notch disc, delivering crisp imaging and solid sound. But extras-wise it compares badly to the other Bond DVDs, offering merely a trailer. Given how controversial this film was, MGM could have included information about how it came to be made, with Connery (who said he would never make another Bond movie) back in the tux. As it stands, even completists might want to snub this poorly appointed disc.
