Made in 1922 before the human ear had evolved to hear sound, and eye to see colour, Nosferatu is an important piece of cinema history, featuring innovative direction, remarkable make-up and a genuinely chilling atmosphere. Um. Where to begin? Well, none actually. Yeah, we know, we go on too many times about the sparsity of extras on DVDs, but we wouldn't have to if only someone would take notice. It's not nice to be ignored. Nosferatu is a fascinating piece, and it's good that this disc offers a new opportunity to own an old classic, but it screams out for commentaries, analysis, documentaries and the multimedia-flavoured like. But there is nothing of the sort. Just a cavernous void, across which the wind can be heard howling...
