Nosferatu - The Vampyre

4

The Dracula make-up is a homage to Max Schreck's Count Orlock, but Werner Herzog's 1979 effort owes little else to FW Murnau's silent classic. It's closer to Bram Stoker's original novel, following Jonathan Harker (Bruno Ganz) to Transylvania and returning, via a nightmarish boat trip, with Count Dracula (Klaus Kinski)...

DVD Extras:

Trailers, Behind The Scenes featurette. Hauntingly shot and infused with grandeur, Herzog's vision is utterly hypnotic, while Kinski gives an astonishing performance as Dracula. The disc is efficient, if uninspired, offering both the English and the longer German language version of the film, and a po-faced but still interesting time-of-release featurette.
