Bookshop owner Hugh and movie star Julia meet one day in London and, inevitably, fall in lurve thanks to the golden pen of Richard Curtis. You know, the Four Weddings bloke - - remember? The by-the-numbers rom-com interplay is only lifted above the level of mundanity by Rhys Ifans' hilariously slobbish Spike.
DVD Extras:
Trailer, travel guide to Notting Hill, biographies, DVD-ROM features. Good, but could have been better, as there are mainly text-based goodies on offer. And you'll need a DVD-ROM drive to reach the more extensive background material. Mind you, there's no denying it's a superb presentation of the film. The extensive notes are diverting and welcome, although where are some of the much-talked about deleted scenes? (About an hour's worth of material was apparently cut from the final film.)
