NYPD Blue: Season Four

4

Sexual harassment, charges of misconduct, death by auto-asphyxiation, sperm donation and good old crime and punishment. Yep, it’s just another day for the cops of NYPD Blue... Season four sees a load of new characters, which ensures Steve Bochco and David Milch’s acclaimed cop show remains upstanding and arresting viewing. A decade on, the drama and humanity of the 22 episodes are still palpable – as actress Andrea Thompson notes on the commentary for Tom And Geri, “It’s hard to believe it’s 10 years old, because it still feels so immediate and contemporary.”

BEST BIT The multi-episode investigation into Simone’s shocking ending in the season finale.

DVD Extras:

Thompson’s bubbly chat-track with guest star Debra Christofferson is joined by two disappointingly awkward commentaries by director Mark Tinker and writer/producer Bill Clark. Fortunately, the featurettes on the new cast members and the show’s distinctive look do justice to the boys and girls in Blue.
