Once Upon A Time In Mexico

3

A combustible conclusion to a tumultuous trilogy, Robert Rodriguez's hyperactive Sergio Leone tribute is good and bad, but rarely ugly. Aiming for epic, he overloads his Desperado sequel by infusing it with El Mariachi-style energy but bugger-all sense. Antonio Banderas' guitar-strumming assassin takes a back seat, with Johnny Depp's ruthless CIA agent marshalling the mayhem. Striking imagery and rambunctious set-pieces abound, but it's too anarchic and inconsequential to come close to the movies it's aping.
