One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Special Edition

5

This is damn near as good as it gets. Prime-period Jack Nicholson is RP McMurphy, an anti-establishment rabble-rouser seconded to the sterile mental hospital of the demonic Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). Cast, direction, score, look - - perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect.

DVD Extras:

Interviews with director Milos Forman and producers Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz are expertly patched together for the fact-full commentary. Eight deleted scenes must've been hard to snip, and the Making Of reveals that the cast were virtually institutionalised for the shoot, real-life doctors and patients participated and Douglas had serious worries about the sanity of some of his actors. A top package denied greatness by one thing: there's Jack all from Nicholson.

This film for me never gets old. I'm a big enough Jack Nicholson fan as it is, but I believe this was one of his best. I loved the ways mental instablity was presented, giving a different outlook on life inside a mental hospital. Myself, being involved with a mental hospital, being close to being kept in there at a younger age, it really touched home with me. Incredible, truly incredible.
