Out Of Sight

5

Steven Soderbergh's adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel is a smart, sultry thriller with a cool line in comedy - - like Get Shorty, only much better. George Clooney (as an escaped bank robber) and Jennifer Lopez (as the US marshal assigned to track him down) make a sizzling match, smouldering with natural chemistry in an instant classic that no self-respecting DVD owner should be without. One of '98's best - - clever, droll and eminently rewatchable.

DVD Extras:

Commentary, production notes, documentary, deleted scenes, filmographies and theatrical trailer. The film alone is well worth owning in a never-wear-out format and the extras are fantastic too. Soderbergh and writer Scott Frank provide a wry running commentary, the 30-minute Making Of documentary is superb, while deleted scenes enhance what is already a belter of a film. Congratulations to Columbia/Universal, which has duplicated the features from the American collector's edition for Region 2 release when so many other companies short-change UK film fans. If there was any justice in the world, all discs would be made with this much thought behind them.
