Out Of The Blue

13 November 1990, Aramoana, New Zealand: in an idyllic coastal town David Gray cracks and starts gunning down his neighbours. By the time his spree ends 13 unarmed people are dead, including four children, in NZ’s worst shooting incident. Using police reports, statements and crime snaps, Robert Sarkies’ moving docudrama recreates events with steel-eyed realism, sensationalising nothing as the pap-pap-pap of semi-automatic gunfire echoes around town. A harrowing insight into how easily unexpected violence can shatter normality.
