By a whopping country mile the best talking critter flick in a year overrun by the ’toons, Over The Hedge’s chief appeal lies in its top vocal talent. There’s Bruce Willis’ raccoon RJ, William Shatner’s possum and, best of all, Steve Carrell on manic squirrel duties – his Hammy stealing the show with a particularly nutty display. It’s a perfect Sunday afternoon kiddie flick, with knowing nods for grown-ups too. The gist? A trolley-full of food RJ has pilfered from Nick Nolte’s angry bear is lost – prompting said grizzly to lose his rag and force the raccoon to replenish the stock. Cue RJ’s plentiful, sneaky foraging ploys to try to replace the grub and save his hide...
