Melodramatic and unconvincing WW1 drama

Slushy romance, stiff acting, religious allegory and a hokey plot make for a queasy telling of valiant Canadian efforts at the titular WW1 battle.

Even trench warfare gets the soft-soap treatment in this wannabe heart-stirrer.

As for the Brit baddie, he’d be OTT in panto.
