Perfect Blue

3

An unsettling psychological thriller that tears into the nature of celebrity, made all the more shocking by being what the uninitiated might dare call a cartoon. It's a smart story, confusingly told, and it wobbles unfortunately between Body Double-era De Palma (ugh) and Vertigo-esque Hitchcock (ace). It's memorable and sometimes beautiful, but the sexual violence and disorientating editing mean you're unlikely to watch it again.
