The master of classic German horror has a go at comedy

An FW Murnau comedy?

Sounds improbable – but Die Finanzen is just that: a comic-opera romp set on a Mediterranean island whose ruler has severe cash problems.

Not the funniest film ever, but the location shooting is luminously beautiful.

Phantom is more familiar: the fraught psychological drama of a twitchy young poet led to ruin by a femme fatale.
