Oliver Stone's Oscar-bagging war flick presents the conflict in 'Nam from the perspective of naïve soldier Charlie Sheen. The platoon of the title are fighting among themselves as much as battling the enemy, as commanding officers Willem Dafoe and Tom Berenger come to blows over their differing methods. The grisly reality is brought to life by Stone's dialogue and emotion-charged combat scenes, raising thought-provoking questions of morality in this still-resonant classic.
DVD Extras:
One lonely trailer. Unless you're easily pleased by some pretty animated menus and a two-minute trailer, there is nothing to encourage you to buy this disc, which is a shame. The film, naturally, looks great on this format, and certainly does Stone and Robert Richardson's superb cinematography justice - - but there's very little else to recommend an otherwise shabby, lazy transfer and missed opportunity.
