Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer

4

Russian rockers' protest

Dismissed as demonic by pro-Orthodox blowhards, the three women of Russia’s Pussy Riot emerge as clear-headed disciples of “metaphor and art” in Maxim Pozdorovkin and Mike Lerner’s revealing doc.

They aren’t much cop as a band, but their protest “happening” in a Moscow cathedral cut to the heart of national insecurities.

The political/personal contexts of their “action” and subsequent imprisonment is explored; friends and foes speak out.

But it’s Pussy Riot’s intelligence and grace under pressure that grip.
