Injured in a motorbike crash, Rose (porn star Marilyn Chambers) is taken to a plastic surgery where she receives a number of skin grafts. However, an unfortunate side effect sees her develop a phallic, bloodsucking organ in her armpit, which she promptly sticks into as many people as possible. Who then come down with rabies.

The film-making is a little crude at times and George Romero's The Crazies better captures the escalating terror of spreading disease, but there's plenty here to get you gagging. And thinking. Cronenberg's ten-minute intro discusses the film's metaphors, from political allegory to AIDs warning. Newman's production notes are also worth a gander.
