With thoughts of a second Oscar on his mind and Jerry Lewis' Nutty Professor gnashers in his gob, Cuba Gooding Jr retches up an insufferably cute turn in this sporting blub-fest, "inspired by" the true story of a mentally challenged football mascot. The real star is Ed Harris, an oasis of dignified reserve as the kindly coach who befriends our hero. His performance is the only thing that'll keep you tuned in as Radio trowels on the hugs and homilies.
DVD Extras:
Helmer/producer Michael Tollin dispenses affable chatter over the movie and a crop of deleted scenes. The Making Of stuff is divided into three featurettes probing the story, script and football training, but the highlight is Debra Winger rethinking her retirement. After all, who'd want this as their swansong?
