Mixed reviews at the time haven't stopped Martin Scorsese's blazingly innovative life story of boxer Jake La Motta from bagging a place among film's greatest achievements. It hits harder with each passing year.
DVD Extras:
Documentary featuring Jake La Motta and the film's editor Thelma Schoonmaker, original trailer, souvenir booklet, postcard set, Jake's Jokes, hidden extras: black-and-white stills of La Motta and newsreel footage.Watching long-time Scorsese collaborator Schoonmaker talking through his working methods is great, but why wasn't that worked up into a proper commentary instead of just tucked away on the documentary? That, combined with the fact that most of the extras focus on La Motta himself rather than the film, makes for a disappointing package.
