A two-hour power-ballad montage from Garry Pretty Woman Marshall, this is another female empowerment fantasy, except instead of hooking for happiness, you must be a mum to be complete. Credit to a Kate Hudson that she makes this saccharine slop occasionally bearable, as a go-getting city singleton saddled with her dead sister's kids. Only her scenes with other sister Joan Cusack have any heft, though; the rest has the emotional range of an autistic dog.
DVD Extras:
An avuncular Marshall tops-and-tails five deleted scenes which could be swapped for any in the film. He also contributes to a commentary with the writers that starts out sparky but becomes insufferable, unless you want an insight into making soulless studio-filler from a man who describes Taylor Hackford as a "great director". Outtakes and a Liz Phair `music' video complete the pain.
