Red Eye is an old, old kind of thriller - a Hitchcock knock-off with shonky '70s stylings: a similar feel to Black Sunday or Juggernaut. And there's nothing wrong with that. Mean Girls' rising star Rachel McAdams makes an excellent Woman In Peril, her character vulnerable yet resourceful when charming flight partner Cillian Murphy turns nasty - forcing her to make a call that will save her father's life but end someone else's...
Murphy relishes playing Ruthless Bastard and the pair's charisma make their sit-down confrontations far more gripping than the panto finale. Overall: simple, enjoyable and - rare and important, this - short.
DVD Extras:
"It wasn't like it was my lifelong dream to become a horror director," says Wes Craven, explaining his slight change of direction. "It just happened." The Scream director comes off as likeable and self-effacing in the so-so commentary and featurettes, even if the title of one - A New Kind Of Thriller - is the inverse of reality.
