The Icelandic thriller that's been remade as Contraband

A heist, a shoot out, some bloody knuckles and at least one skull-thumping surprise are surely what convinced Mark Wahlberg to remake this brisk, crisp Icelandic crime thriller as Contraband.

Wahlberg’s take is directed by the original’s star/producer/co-writer baltasar Kormákur, charismatic as a retired boozy smuggler forced into one  last job that puts his family in grave danger.

Just 82 mins long, R-R starts slow but coolly gathers pace in the second half as it knots a simple plot with some pleasing suspense, violence and wry humour.
