Single mum and co-worker conceive a baby who sprouts wings

The flaw in Fr ançois Ozon’s (Potiche) rapid work rate looks clear from this kitchen-sink fairytale: it feels frustratingly rushed. Adapted from Rose Tremain’s story, it resembles a F rench remix of Look Who’s Talking via X-Men. Single mom Alexandra Lamy and co-worker Sergi López conceive a baby who sprouts wings. Some nifty ideas follow, like mum body-padding baby for airborne safety. But Ozon’s soup of scary-movie score, social realism and sentimentality lacks purpose and a proper ending, rendering this button-cute occasional delight too slight for full flight.
