First it was Squelch. Then it was Joyride. Then they settled on Roadkill. Such indecisive marketing is never good for a movie, and, sure enough, Roadkill crashed at the box-office. But John Dahl’s road-tripping psycho thriller is so effective, it’s almost worthy of a “Lost Classic” tag. Paul Walker and Steve Zahn are brothers hounded by a demented trucker who takes offence at their CB-related prank. Yes, it’s derivative, a twisted metal collision of Duel and The Hitcher. And yes, the ending’s a tad glib. But the rest of the action is tense and snappy, cranking up the tension to full throttle and going flat out to shred those nerves.
