Two guys and a gal find themselves fleeing a demented truck driver (voiced by Ted Levine, The Silence Of The Lambs’ Buffalo Bill) after a ‘harmless’ CB prank goes awry. Plenty of suspense, a couple of textbook jolts and some precise injections of comedy make this a return to form for John 'The Last Seduction' Dahl. Shame about the cop-out climax, though.
DVD Extras:
Four alternate endings, with optional commentaries by Dahl. Three of these are variations on the existing theme, while the fourth - the scripted original - barrels down an entirely divergent side road for 25 minutes.Feature commentaries come courtesy of Dahl (gets off to a great start but soon runs out of gas), writers JJ Abrams and Clay Tarver (amusing interplay) and stars Steve Zahn and Leelee Sobieski (he's hilarious, she's overbearing). Titbits include the chance to hear Eric Roberts and Stephen Shellen audition for the voice of psycho trucker Rusty Nail (both go for insidious charm over the growled threat of Levine) and a must-miss `featurette'.
