Two girls, one room

Room in Rome review

Passed over for a cinema release in the UK, this sensual love story from Basque writer/ director Julio Medem (Lovers Of The Arctic Circle) takes place almost exclusively within the elegant confines of a central Rome hotel room.

Two young, beautiful strangers – the Spanish Alba (Elena Anaya) and the Russian Natasha (Natasha Yarovenko) – share a long summer night of physical passion and emotional revelation.

The storytelling lacks the ambition of Medem’s best work, but this is a sumptuously lensed, playful little charmer, with highly appealing turns from the two leads.
