Saturday Night&Sunday Morning

4

Never mind your "angry young man"; Albert Finney's positively fuming in this adaptation of Alan Sillitoe's novel. Actually, there's a lust for life to his factory worker, Arthur Seaton, that elevates this social-problem story into a vigorous film about grabbing what you can from life while you can.

DVD Extras:

Photo gallery, biogs and an archive interview with Finney, where he talks about giving the "breath of life" to Seaton. Best, though, are the detailed commentaries from Sillitoe, DP Freddie Francis and film historian Robert Murphy, which set the film in context and discuss the censors' problems with its depiction of pleasurable, adulterous mischief.
