Saturday Night Fever

5

So, it's not just about disco, Bee Gees numbers and John Travolta's white suit - - Saturday Night Fever is an era-defining movie that's a whole lot grittier than you probably remember. The cast are all outstanding, not least born-superstar Travolta, breathing life into a superb depiction of the cramped world and dreams of a group of dance-crazed blue-collar Brooklyn youths.

DVD Extras:

Director John Badham's commentary is wry and honest. Better still, he contradicts some of Travolta's own reminiscences on the Making Of documentary, including whether or not those really are the actor's feet we see strutting down the pavement in the legendary opening sequence. The trio of deleted scenes aren't massively interesting, but this is still a fine, if rather lean, disc.
