After approximately 5,437 Will Ferrell sports comedies, it’s hard to get excited about this basketball-themed romp with its hit-and-miss skits and obscure milieu. Built around the ABA League, which flourished in the ’70s before being amalgamated into the NBA, it sees Will’s player-owner Jackie Moon trying everything from pro ringers (Woody Harrelson) to bear wrestling to save his team from going under. The result is half-conceived, its underdog-celebrating script resembling not so much a slam dunk as a series of unsuccessful dribbles.
